How NTI Elevates Our Apprenticeship Program

Every summer, a major event happens for the electrical industry, and even though it takes place hundreds of miles away, it makes a big impact right here in the U.P.

The National Training Institute (NTI), hosted at Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor, brings together instructors and union leaders from across the country to share the newest teaching techniques, technology, and safety standards.

At IBEW 906 JATC, we’re proud to send our instructors to NTI because it helps us stay at the forefront of electrical training. Our apprentices deserve the best, and NTI helps us deliver it. When our educators return, they bring with them the knowledge and tools to improve our local program, making it safer, stronger, and more forward-thinking.

That’s especially important as we work to recruit high-caliber apprentices from across the U.P., particularly from communities in the western and eastern ends. NTI ensures that wherever they hail from, our apprentices are getting instruction that meets national standards.

The skills taught at NTI go far beyond books. They include strategies to teach hands-on learning more effectively, incorporate new electrical technologies and systems like solar, and better support apprentices as they grow into leaders. It’s the kind of training that changes lives and raises the bar for our entire region.

We’re building a workforce that earns while they learn, graduates debt-free, and goes to work in some of the most advanced industrial and commercial facilities in the U.P. That kind of opportunity takes dedication and the right instruction. That’s where NTI comes in.
